Melaleuca. Not exactly an ordinary name. Then again, Melaleuca isn’t exactly an ordinary company.
In less than 30 years it has grown from a little startup in rural Idaho to a billion-dollar enterprise doing business in 17 countries around the globe. It has become one of the largest catalog and online retailers in North America. And it is the largest manufacturer of consumer packaged goods in the Northwest. Today, more than a million people shop with Melaleuca every month.
It all started in 2006 on a getaway with my husband Hatem. We tasted Cream of Earl Grey, loose leaf tea, for the first time and couldn’t believe the brimming flavors! It was so much better than the teabags that we were used to. I brought some home to share with my friends and family and before I knew it, I was holding 15 tea parties a month!
With Hatem at my side, we set out to make premium loose-leaf tea the daily norm and create an alternative, fun income opportunity for others. We have grown a direct-selling company that empowers people to start a business of their own and become a passionate entrepreneur all while sharing a cup of tea.
Everything aligned when we partnered with our investor’s David Chilton and Jim Treliving of CBC’s Dragons’ Den. With their help and the help of our consultants, we continue to grow in Canada and the U.S.A.
